Welcome to the Stoney Hills Observatory web site.

Based 40 miles east of London in Burnham, Essex, the Stoney Hills Observatory is my personal attempt to capture some of the beauty of the night sky from a backyard location.

Whilst technology definitely plays a large part in astronomy there is still something awe inspiring about just looking though a telescope and realising that such strange and fantastic objects are really there, hanging in the sky above us. Using long exposures onto a CCD brings out the fine detail and structure and allows some of the glory of these celestial objects to be recorded.

The Stoney Hills Observatory has only been running a few months so there's only a few images here at the moment but more will be added soon.

I hope you enjoy this site.
